"So will I be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might."
The Ten Commandments of Ephesians 6:10-20
Pastor Charles Alonso
1) 6:11. I am going to dress myself every day with the whole armor of God, thus I will able to stand against the tricks and deceptions of the devil. (II Corinthians 10:3-6 & Ephesians :11-16)
2) 6:12. I know that I don't have to fight against flesh and blood, but I do fight against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual sickedness in high and earthly places. (Isaiah 59:16-21; Zechariah 4:6; II Timothy 2:24-26 & I Peter 5:6-11)
3) 6:13. Therefore I am going to take the whole armor of God, so that I may be able to resist the devil and his temptations every evil day. I am going to continue doing this so that I will be able to stand strong and be able to fulfill everything that God commands me to do. (Luke 12:35-40 & I Peter 2:19-25)
4) 6:14a. I am going to stand strong every day, surrounding my waist (my thought-life) with the truth. Therefore I am going to be ready to speak the truth with my fellow man and with myself, even when it does not favor me or it brings me harm. Zechariah 8:16-17; Psalm 15:1-5 & I Peter 1:13-23)
5) 6:14b. Every day I am going to dress myself with the breastplate of righteousness (to protect my heart). Every day I am going to find ways to do justice to everyone who comes to me, giving them more than less. I am also going to look every day for ways to help others and to love mercy, giving physical and spiritual assistance and support even to those who cannot repay me again, and thus I will walk humbly with my God. (Micah 6:6-9; Luke 14:12-15; Philippians 4:6-7 & II Corinthians 6:1-10)
6) 6:15. Each morning when I rise I am going to shod my feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. I am going to prepare myself to walk today and take everywhere I go this beautiful gospel of having peace with God, by which every person can obtain eternal salvation by means of believing in the sacrifice that Jesus Christ did on the cross for everyone. (Romans 1:15-17 & I Corinthians 1:18-24)
7) 6:16. Together with this powerful armor I will always take with me the shield of the faith, because it is the strongest defense that I have in order to extinguish all the fiery darts of the wicked one (all the doubts, fears, and temptations of the devil). Romans 3:28; Romans 5:1-2 & Hebrews 11:1-6)
8) 6:17a. And I will always take with me the helmet of salvation. With this helmet I will live every day with the assurance that I belong to Christ, and I willwalk with the blessed assurance of having eternal life. This "blessed assurance" helps me to walk always in obedience as an ambassador of Jesus Christ. (II Corinthians 5:17-21; I Thessalonians 5:1-11; Titus 2:11-15 & James 1:22-25)
9) 6:17b. Each morning I will put in my heart and take with me the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, which is the best offensive weapon that I have whereby I can attack the enemy. (Joshua 1:5-9; Psalm 1:1-3; Psalm 119:9-18 & James 4:7-8)1
10) 6:18. Thus, I will go joyfully everywhere, praying and speaking with my Lord, praying without ceasing in the Spirit, and watching and guarding with all perseverance and supplications for all my brothers and sisters. For I surely know that my prayers are the only arrows that my soul can shoot. (Matthew 6:5-15; Colossians 3:12-17 & I Thessalonians 5:16-19)
Dear brothers and sisters: Pray for one another and for me, that I may be given by my Lord the words to speak, and that I may open my mouth with boldness and be able to speak the mystery of the gospel in simplicity, by which I am an ambassador unto death, and that with boldness I may speak of Him (of Christ) as I must speak. (Ephesians 6:19-20 & Acts 4:29-31)
Thus, along with the whole armor of God, I will walk every day with the Sword of the Word of God in my heart, and with the arrows of my prayers, calling out to my God, abiding in Christ every day, and together with Him I will soon receive my eternal rewards, so that at the end of my life I will say: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. " (Matthew 16:24-27; II Timothy 4:5-8)
May I hear my Lord say: "Well done, good and faithful servant... enter into the joy of your Lord."(Matthew 25:23)
